Ask any deli manager about container problems and you will hear about lids. Never about bases.
Two SKUs, two lead times
Bases and lids are made on different tools and often arrive on different schedules.
Any process that lets them be ordered separately will eventually let them drift.
Usage is not symmetrical either
Lids get damaged, lost and thrown away faster than bases do.
So even a perfectly matched delivery slowly goes out of balance.
The fix is boring and total
Quote as a pair, pack as a pair, hold the pairing on the account.
A reorder becomes one line that cannot get out of step.
And share lids where you can
If two or three base depths share a rim, they share a lid.
Fewer lid SKUs means fewer ways to be wrong.
